MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Hundreds of fans lined up at the Montgomery Regional Airport to see the Auburn University football team depart for the national championship game in Pasadena, Calif.
The airport authority and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce organized the event Tuesday.
Marie Newman from Monterey, Calif., said she and her husband, a 1993 Auburn graduate, were in Alabama for the holidays and they decided to attend. She said pulling for her husband's alma mater "is a family tradition."
Mashanda Nash of Alabaster was there in a Crimson Tide shirt along with her husband, Auburn fan Tim Nash. She said that as the season unfolded, she realized something special was happening at Auburn.
David Mabrey brought three generations of his family from McCalla to the airport because they can't attend the game.
