“Bright Bazaar: Embracing Color for Make-You-Smile Style” by Will Taylor (St. Martin’s Press, 129 pages, in stores)
Decorating a home can be a confusing and overwhelming task.
But Will Taylor is here to help.
With his book, “Bright Bazaar: Embracing Color for Make-You-Smile Style,” Taylor shares his favorite color palettes and design tips. And along the way, Taylor, who runs a home design blog at http://brightbazarreblog.com, makes the decorating process seem much more fun and friendly.
The book is filled with photos of colorfully decorated homes from around the world, along with the photography from Taylor’s own travels that helped inspire his color schemes.
Taylor’s book avoids many of the pitfalls that make home decor books and magazines seem intimidating, such as industry jargon, difficult-to-execute ideas and overly expensive furniture.
He writes in a relaxed, accessible manner that makes him seem more like a knowledgeable friend than a design guru, and many of his tips are affordable and easy to pull off. Some, like grouping books in your bookshelves by color or painting a wall or door with chalkboard paint, can be done with $20 and a couple hours to spare.
Best of all, the rooms featured in his book actually look somewhat affordable. While they’re all beautiful and feature attractive furniture and art, most seem modest and relatively easy to replicate.
Taylor’s style is bright and simple, and the overall effect of some of the rooms shown may not appeal to everyone. Many of the homes shown are located in Scandinavian countries, and most have a certain look to them — like an Ikea showroom with nicer wall art and throw pillows. But no matter what your personal style is, Taylor still provides lots of worthwhile ideas that can provide inspiration and help you turn your home into a happier, brighter living space.
