ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — On the disabled list after just one at-bat, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes hopes to return from a left hamstrng injury in a couple of weeks.
Reyes was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday night, several hours after getting hurt running the bases during an opening 9-2 loss to Tampa Bay.
An MRI Tuesday showed Reyes has mild inflammation of the hamstring. He will rest the leg for several days.
Reyes missed several games during the final week of spring training because of the same injury. He was limited to 93 games last season, when he injured his left ankle in Toronto's 10th game and was sidelined until June 26.
Toronto selected the contract of infielder Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday night and he started at shortstop on Tuesday.
