ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The transit agency for the Aspen area has adopted a policy to review the environmental responsibility of natural gas suppliers for its buses.
The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority has ordered 22 buses that run on compressed natural gas, with delivery scheduled for next year.
Its board approved a policy Thursday that says the agency expects the gas and oil industry to adhere to best practices when exploring for, extracting, and delivering natural gas. The policy says the agency will try to do business with only those that do. Specifics aren't outlined.
Chief Operating Officer Todd Horsley says the agency will still focus primarily on price when evaluating bids from natural gas suppliers, but suppliers that are environmentally responsible will likely receive bonus points on their bids.
