Richard Roberts offered severance package

Published: August 13, 2008

TULSA (AP) - The former president of Oral Roberts University, who stepped down last fall amid allegations he misspent school funds to live in luxury, is getting a severance package from the university, but officials there refuse to divulge its terms.

Televangelist Richard Roberts, the son of school founder Oral Roberts, resigned in November.

Billionaire Oklahoma City businessman Mart Green took the reins of the school in January, donating $70 million and pledging to restore the public's trust in the small evangelical school.

Wednesday, Green called the proposed severance agreement "fair, reasonable, and in the best interest of ORU." The package has yet to be finalized, and Green refused to comment further on the details.

His "get healthy" speech he does for freshmen takes on new terms. He talks about cutting the fat. How ironic. I often wondered what the difference was between Richard and Robert Shuller Jr. Maybe they are all in the same boat as Joel Osteen, Franklin Graham, and other Jr's in that its almost impossible to fill papa's shoes in a high profile environment. It is amazing how much they do try to do so even to the point of mimicking their gestures and mannerisms. Richard Roberts took on the hairdo but Shuller Jr. took on the speech and gestures. All of them except Graham talk about hanging with the youth at local Starbucks stores. Graham talks more about running into people at Crackle Barrel and Gaither retreats. No matter what you think about this one thing stands clear, these guys are into high finance religions!

The severance this man would receive in many parts of the world wouldn't involve monetary compensation, but would be more of a cutting off of an appendage or his head. Here is abuse of power at its worst. They take in widow's money who believe they are helping the church and their God, and some D*** decides he is an instrument of God so he has the God-given right to steal the money and use it for his own purposes. He gives organized religion a bad name, and someone Higher Up Than HIM may not like that very much.

You should have seen the pics of his 12 million dollar mansion that was for sale. Think of all the old folks on fixed incomes that paid for that. Come on Mart, put it out in public. I thought transparency was what you were all about...NOT!

He gets a severance package after stealing millions or more from the school? How absurd! How do such stupid people get into powerful positions? They have NO common sense!

Any other business in the world, besides maybe government, would fire people outright for stealing, or the more polite term for it of 'misappropriating.' Couldn't Roberts just mooch off his daddy like he's been doing all his life?

Actually Suzan, it is Mart Green. And he is not a billionaire. His father, David Green (Hobby Lobby founder) is the billionaire and ultimate source of the money.

It's Mark Green not Mart Green.
