Stable housing market helps Oklahoma weather recession

Not having many homes under water is a big reason why Oklahoma’s economy is above water today.

The term “under water” describes homeowners who owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth. It was used frequently during the depths of the recession, particularly in states such as Arizona, California and Florida, where the recession hit particularly hard.
