Snowfall has been heavy north of Interstate 40 this morning, and more bands of snow are expected to move across Oklahoma City before mostly moving out of the area by noon. Wind gusts are likely to create blowing snow this afternoon.

Some drifting of roads has happened, with more than 4 inches of snow reported in Oklahoma City. Sustained winds of 25 mph have been reported.

City crews are trying to move drifts to the sides of streets, said Kristy Yager, Oklahoma City spokeswoman.

“We've had a very dry snow so it's difficult to plow,” Yager said. “We plow it to the side of the street and the wind just blows it back in the street.”

Yager said a powdery snow is difficult to drive in.

“People can expect a bumpy ride this morning,” she said.

Snowdrifts have not been a major problem for emergency responders this morning, said Tony McCarty, a spokesman for Emergency Medical Services Authority in Oklahoma City. He said ambulance drivers had not reported any problems getting stuck as of 5 a.m.

ROAD CONDITIONS

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports four wrecks related to the storm, including one with injury, according to a news release from the state Emergency Operations Center.
