The 6:30 a.m. opening is a major milestone in the project, which has been under construction since June 2010.
All four lanes of traffic on Robinson will be open for use Wednesday, as well as a continuous sidewalk for pedestrians on the south side of the road, Public Works Director Shawn O'Leary said.
The project is not complete, because the northern connections of Robinson to Flood Street and Stubbeman Avenue still have to be done, O'Leary said. Work on those connections will begin Wednesday.
By moving traffic from a temporary Robinson Street “shoofly” to the permanent Robinson Street thruway, the contractor can remove the shoofly and finish construction of the northern end of the project, O'Leary said.
Two sections of Flood and Stubbeman still need work. A retaining wall needs to be built on the north side of Robinson, and an extension of Legacy Trail installed, O'Leary said.
