NORMAN — A $6,000 grant from NASA will help Cleveland County 4-H participate in its first robotics competition. The group plans to compete at the Robotics Oklahoma City Regional Competition Feb. 26-28.

This will be the second 4-H robotics team in Oklahoma. Oklahoma County started a 4-H robotics team last year.
In addition to the NASA grant, Nemecek Interiors donated $200 to the team, the Cleveland County 4-H Foundation donated $500 and Flintco donated $250 worth of building materials. The team is still looking for donations to raise the approximately $9,000 needed to compete in the competition.
Justin McConaghy, a 4-H educator, said robotics is one of many science, engineering and technology programs offered by 4-H to increase youth interest in the sciences. According to a recent study, the United States is falling behind other nations in developing a future workforce of scientists, engineers and technology experts, he said.
