Shawn Minor insists he is not chasing former Edmond cowboy Dan Dailey's record of 29 world championships in the International Professional Rodeo Association.
The former Weatherford bronc rider might not be chasing Dailey, but he might catch him anyway.
Minor, a former rodeo cowboy for Southwestern Oklahoma State University, claimed his 19th, 20th and 21st gold buckles at the International Finals Rodeo, which concluded Sunday in State Fair Arena.
Minor, 38, won his ninth all-around title and eighth in a row, his eighth bareback riding championship and his fourth saddle bronc crown in the IPRA, which is awarded to the top money earner overall and in each event during the season.
It was the second time in his career that Minor won all three titles in the same season. The other time occurred in 2009.
He is now only eight shy of tying Dailey's record for the most championships ever in the IPRA, but Minor said it's not something he's trying to do.
“People ask me that a lot, but it's not a goal for me,” said the Camden, Ohio, cowboy. “My goal is to get on the next horse and hope to win some money.”
It was Minor's 11th consecutive appearance in the IFR and his best performance ever. He won the average in the bareback riding and finished third in the saddle bronc event.
