Thulin, a Dallas resident who grew up in Pittsburgh, raves about the growth of Oklahoma City.

“To see Bricktown and what Mick Cornett has done as mayor. He’s a better mayor than a sportcaster,” Thulin said with a laugh of Cornett, the former KOCO-5 sports director. “I’m just so proud of him and so proud of the city.”

Thulin also experienced close up the spirit of the state last year when it rallied to help victims of the Moore tornado.

“My wife and I hopped in the car and we worked up there a couple of days, tearing down houses and stuff,” he said. “I was watching everyone chip in. It’s that spirit, you can’t tell people about that. You got to see it firsthand.

“The spirit of Oklahoma. I appreciate it a lot more than when I lived there. It’s just fun to get back there and be part of that again.”
