Ron Thulin: Six teams could win Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament

Thulin, TV voice of the tournament, says OU and OSU have potential to pull upsets

Ron Thulin, who will be the TV voice of the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament, working all nine games with analyst Brenda VanLengen, discussed the tournament field:

“I think there are six teams, some more than others, with the possibility to win this thing. Obviously, Baylor and West Virginia are rolling. I’ve had West Virginia three times this year. (Coach) Mike Carey, he’s got depth, he’s got size, he’s got toughness. Baylor is a little bit of a surprise to me the way the freshmen have stepped up. I think (coach) Kim (Mulkey), when you look that she basically lost 70 percent of her scoring and 60 percent of her rebounding, to see what they’ve done this year is pretty remarkable.

“But I think Oklahoma State has the talent to do it. They lost some games they shouldn’t have. I’m waiting for them to put a complete game together. Oklahoma, I think (coach) Sherri (Coale) has done an incredible job in what I think is probably her most frustrating year. Last year she knew she lost those players to injury. She knew what she had. This year, she knows what she has, but she doesn’t know what they are going to give her. I think she has an incredible job of trying to keep the ship upright. I think Oklahoma, if they get locked in on defense, they can pull an upset. The same holds true for Oklahoma State.
