Root of the problem

In the wake of another shooting, we got a description of the young killer as perhaps mentally disturbed, a loner, not one who socializes easily. It seems that all these random perpetrators are young men who are either mentally disturbed or have such tendencies, are bullied or have an inability to adapt to society. When are we going to start recognizing these young people and start trying to help them rather than ignoring them? That to me seems to be the root of the problem.

This will require a change in attitude of all who come into contact with that person. It behooves each community to provide mental health resources for those who know or encounter such a young person so that all of us can work to help this kid. Let's start being proactive in recognizing that a problem might exist and trying to save this young person's life by addressing mental health issues early, long before we get to the “let's ban all guns” mode after it's too late.
