Organizers said they will consider hosting a second Treadmill-athon next year.

The physical fitness major participated in the Rose State College Treadmill-athon this month in the campus wellness center.

Students and employees were encouraged to complete a 26.2-mile marathon by using a treadmill at the wellness center.

The program began Oct. 1, and ends today. More than 50 participants have completed the marathon.

"Some days were hard,” Hanna said after completing the marathon Oct. 22. "But I lost weight, and that’s a tangible benefit.”

Hanna said another benefit of completing the race early was winning bragging rights against the college’s wellness center director, Chris Leland, who initiated the program.

Leland finished the marathon a few hours after Hanna.

Those who completed the race before Leland will have their names entered into a drawing for a Polar heart-rate monitor. Participants who finish by 8 p.m. today will receive a T-shirt.

The purpose of the program is to promote a healthy lifestyle on the college campus and fight obesity, Leland said.

"We wanted to get people on campus to increase their activity level,” Leland said.
