Roughtail releases first seasonal, plans three others

Roughtail Brewing Co. tonight will roll out its first in a series of four planned seasonal beers.

The release party for Pumpkin Porter will be 6 p.m. today at TapWerks, 121 E Sheridan Ave.

Roughtail brewmaster Tony Tielli said the beer is a robust porter brewed with real pumpkin and familiar pumpkin pie-style spices, like cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.

“We toned down the bitterness a bit to let the spice and malt be the star,” Tielli said. “The pumpkin is subtle and plays a supporting role.  This is meant to be a drinkable, malty, full-bodied dark ale, brewed for those crisp autumn evenings. Currently it’s draft only and it will be available through the end of November.”

The beer will be available at TapWerks, McNellie’s OKC, McNellie’s Norman and the Edmond Bricktown Brewery.

Tielli also informed me about plans for three additional seasonal brews:

-Winter Wiezenbock

-Spring Saison

-Summer Honey-Wheat
