A Charleston Daily Mail report refutes those claims, citing an West Virginia University source as saying, “the Herald Dispatch story had blatant inaccuracies” and calling the ultimatum “an outright lie”.

Monday, the Charleston Daily Mail reported that WVU was looking for anonymous contributors to newspaper stories about Holgorsen. As the school began looking into the alleged incidents, “officials grew suspicious the stories being spread were coming from within,” according to the report. The story said that the contract of current head coach Bill Stewart was on hold until the inquiry has concluded.

An Internet report by The Smoking Musket alleged that Stewart might have served as a source for the initial Herald-Dispatch report of Holgorsen's alleged incidents.
