Runners on a spiritual journey from Alaska to Guatemala will speak Sunday at Church of the Open Arms, 3131 N Pennsylvania Ave.
The runners are part of the Peace & Dignity Journey, founded in 1992 to reunite the indigenous peoples of the American hemisphere toward the preservation of indigenous cultures.
Others are running north from Tierra del Fuego, the southern tip of South America, to convene in Tikal, Guatemala, with the runners from Alaska. Tikal is considered one of the largest archeological and sacred sites of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization. Along the way, local American Indians are invited to join the runners for a day or more.
The church will host a potluck supper for the runners at 6:30 p.m., followed by the runners' presentation.
Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
