KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — Russian ski jumper Mikhail Maksimochkin was released from the hospital on Friday after fracturing two ribs in a large hill training accident at the Sochi Olympics.

Maksimochkin suffered the injury when he landed heavily Wednesday during the first training round. He attempted to stand up after the fall, but collapsed and was taken off the hill by stretcher.

The 20-year-old Maksimochkin has already withdrawn from the individual large hill gold competition scheduled for Saturday at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Center.

Russian Olympic Committee spokeswoman Marina Kalinina says a decision will be made after weekend training whether Maksimochkin will take part in the team competition final scheduled for Monday.

If not, Russia could draft Nordic combined athlete Evgeniy Klimov into its team.
