MOORE — This week belonged to Southmoore standouts Kendal Thompson and Austin Haywood.

It started with both of them getting an offer and orally committing to
Oklahoma, and ended with the SaberCats earning their first district title and those two accounting for all three touchdowns.
Haywood caught a 52-yard touchdown pass with 5:35 left to give Southmoore a 22-19 victory over Mustang on Friday night at Moore Stadium.
"This was a big week for us. There was a lot of attention from everyone,” Haywood said. "We were able to have good practices. This is huge for the program.”
Southmoore (9-1, 6-1 in District 6A-1) entered this season as one of the most talented teams on paper. But to ask for this type of season from a second-year school almost seemed like too much to put on the kids.
Turned out
Chris Jensen’s club was ready for the pressure.
Tested time and time again this season, Southmoore came through. And when they needed a big play, the SaberCats knew who to look to.
It didn’t matter that Thompson had only completed two passes for total of minus-2 yards in the second half. On a second-and-26, Thompson looked to his favorite target. And Haywood, as he has so many times before, came through.
"That’s why it’s a 48-minute game,” Thompson said. "We knew it was going to be tough. I just had to keep my head in it.”
The two also had a hand in clinching the game. Facing third-and-16, this time it was Haywood completing a 32-yard pass to Thompson in the final minute.
"I had been asking coach all night to run that one,” Thompson. "We knew it would catch them off guard.”
The defense played a role as Southmoore had four sacks and forced two turnovers.
With the loss, Mustang (7-3, 5-2) goes from being the district champion to going on the road to
Edmond Memorial for a first-round matchup.
Senior running back
Daniel Farrow had another sensational game for the Broncos. He had 32 carries for 166 yards and three touchdowns.
Sophomore running back
Andrew Long ran for 124 yards for Southmoore. Thompson threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard strike with
Nyko Symonds to put the SaberCats on the board in the second quarter.

Section 4. Limited interaction permitted between employees and representatives of school and student-athletes at
other schools.
Interaction between employees or representatives of a member school and student-athletes from other
schools is permitted in connection with events such as summer instructional camps, non-school summer
leagues, or awards ceremonies, except that school employees or representatives are prohibited at all times
from making any statements or engaging in any acts, even if not intended to be taken seriously, that could
be interpreted as encouraging a prospective student-athlete to enroll at or transfer to a member school.
Section 5. Employees or representatives of school defined.
Employees or representatives of a school include administrators, teachers, coaches, assistants, sponsors,
aides, managers, and trainers employed by the school, as well as other student-athletes presently enrolled
or planning to enroll at the school, family members of those student-athletes, alumni, volunteers, and
members of organizations supporting the school's athletic activities.
My opionion is that is the dumbest rule I have ever read. Why would you make a rule that is impossible to enforce. Someone please tell me how that rule can be enforced.
If you read my post earnestly, you will notice that I did not mention sports, but what I said was I would tell any parent (without hesitation) to take there kids out of OKCPS and I will, even if it means moving or selling your home. I personally looked several places before I chose Moore. You also miss read the OSSAA rule it is for coaches first of all and not some parent who tells another how great the sports, academics or facilities are at another school, if OSSAA got into that they would need thousands of staff members.
And please!! please get your facts right before you state them publically: 1. There are no 15 senior transfers who come over and are starting or even playing as for as that is concerned. I have tried to educate all you guys who for some reason are soooo disgrunted about SouthMoore. Listen carefully, inter district transfers are not the concern of OSSAA, they do not get involved in the guidelines districts set for inner transfers(got it) so stop using the total number of transfers for this year because a good number was inner district.
2. The OSSAA does not involve themselves with the standard of academics from one member school to the next, many people have tried that but no go, they do not grant athletic hardships on the bases of academic shortfalls. There may be some extreme circumstances but it would be extreme.
3. Here is a another thing you need to get and all you lawyer happy people when it comes to OSSAA and legal preceedings. I will make it simple, You carry them to court and you most likely will lose and the OSSAA is fully aware of the protection they have. Listen guys, most courts recognize OSSAA as legislative body and a volunteer non-profit so schools voluntarily put themselves under the rules of the OSSAA which makes the courts reluctant to overturn the OSSAA rulings. I personally feel that it gives them too much power over the lives of families and kids, but until it changes, it is what it is.
4. And David this is why I call you sinister, We are not under some special OSSAA investigation. Did you read the prevoius post inwhich I tried to enlighten Charles- Lawton, when he wrote his "be happy" messege about the OSSAA and the two games for this year. I am sure you are a very likable guy, but a little sinster when it comes to our school. You and Charles-Lawton refuse to believe the integrity of my post. And you continiously say that it is questionable that a few kids (6, not 15)could come into the district without recruiting, that is not true, and let me tell you that one of them just came to Oklahoma in June of 09, he did not know any of us. I hope this helps you, or at the least helps you to state the true facts and not just what pops out of your head.
Section 2. Recruiting defined.
Recruiting includes initiating or maintaining contact with a student-athlete, or the student-athlete's family
members, friends, or associates, in circumstances that could influence that student-athlete to select or
transfer to a member school for the purpose of representing that member school in athletic competition.
Offering economic incentives or rewards of any type to a student-athlete, which are not available to all
prospective students on an equal basis, regardless of participation in athletics, or offering such economic
incentives or rewards to the student-athlete's family members, friends, or associates, for the purpose of encouraging that student-athlete to select, transfer to, or remain at a member school, also constitutes
recruiting in violation of this Rule. Recruiting may also include offering or providing special or additional
coaching or instruction that is not offered or made available to other student-athletes at the school on an
equal basis, or providing special attention or consideration to a student-athlete who is considering
transferring, for the purpose of influencing that student-athlete to remain at the school.
It's as clear as any rule that I have ever read or will ever read. The rule reads a little vague and I'm sure attorneys have dissected it in such a way that they have found the many loopholes. One such loophole that I've come up with in my "sinister" and "evil" mind, is that parents can use the "academic excellence" of SouthMoore or the safety of kids as a factor for moving. This will allow the OSSAA to grant eligibilty knowing full well that most, not all, transferred for athletics and not for the reasons stated. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist but you can't tell me that 15-ish kids moved in from other schools at the same time, all being seniors and all starting on the football team is just coincidental. I refuse to believe it. The fact that the OSSAA is still investigating SouthMoore is proof that "shady" business has been done. Everyone knows that if you retain legal guidance in a school district that school districts and the OSSAA for that matter will usually back down for fear of a lawsuit that lawyers throw around like candy these days. Parents know this and that's why it's so easy to skirt around rules. It happens all the time here in Lawton. As soon as someone threatens a lawsuit for whatever reason, everyone backs down because they don't want to risk losing a ton of money in legal precedings. The fact that many of these kids are going through some sort of legal proceedings regarding this issue is a strong statements to how all of this was handled.
Let me help you, The courts granted a temporary order and it was served on both Moore District schools and OSSAA so both was forced to allow those to kids to play. One has since been cleared and the other was denied, so there was no SouthMoore scandel, I 'm sorry, I guess I am just hurting all you Southmoore HATERS feelings tonight. We will Play Bartlesville and if we are blessed, we will move on from there.
Joel, thank you for the kind words, I need say no more to you.
you will probably forfiet 1 or 2 non-district games, Midwest City and Westmoore. Just the beginning. Funny I only had to wait a little over 10 hours to resume commenting to you.
I will discontinue commenting as I was taught not to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. I will save further comments for when the wall of lies and deceit comes tumbling down on your head.
PS i really wouldnt have cared if mustang won the gold ball because farrow moved because he could afford the apartment in mustang not because mustang didnt have enough talent to win on their own.
All you fools who keep insulting his son because you are jealous of him, let me tell you that this young man is respectful, has a 4.0 GPA, 26 ACT, and the coaches and players love him and respect him and so do I. I also have a great deal of respect for the entire family.
And Charles, I am more like a German shephard. Pitbulls are voilent even when not prevoked, and they do not calculate their attacks. Shephards protect people from other animals, even when those animals are human.
As for your comments about your teams respect for each other, please tell us why your JR QB was benched to start the game. Now that is respect for the Coaches, teammates and school.A week after commit to OU and he feels like he doesn"t need the practice, sounds a lot like his dad. You may not have him next year,he may steal some gloves or sell something he shouldn't and get his picture on the cover of SI.
Now THAT is ignorant
games I have ever witnessed.Great talent on both teams, ours just happens to be homegrown not implanted. My son was born and raised across the street from Eisenhower High and kicked your a-- all night. He grew up wanting to be an Eagle since he was in 1st grade,he didn't decide what High School to attend the summer before his SR year on the chance to win a state championship. By the way,we will see you again next year as the majority of or skill players are soph and juniors. Sabercats were lucky our coaches went braindead and played prevent defense.Remember we are rebuilding a program not recruiting one.
tonight.
I want to envite you all out to see Lawton Ike VS Southmoore, Charles, don't be afraid and please stop being a hater, support us in bringing that GOLD BALL back to this side of the State.
7 of 14 forced and recovered fumbles = 50%. The 3 linemen transfers averaged 6'2" 274 lbs. Lawton has 3 high schools; Lawton High 6A,Eisenhower 6A and MacArthur 5A with approx. 3300 students. The entire city had 5 new seniors on their rosters this year with only transferring between Lawton schools.Remember Ft Sill has thousands of families transferring in and out every year. The numbers don't lie.
The only way for you to be cured is let go of your mental block that some how some one put this team together. Donald, that is false and I am trying to tell you but you guys are so anti-Southmoore you refuse to get the truth in your minds. You have to first understand that last year would not have been as bad as it was if the two best players on the team had not gotten injured. They would have atleast been a 500 team, had KT & Key stayed healthy. I say this to help you see that the transfers helped but only to fill into a team that had good athletes already. truly you only have three transfers that are contributors, only three!!
Donald, Yes, I am a great defender of the people at Southmoore high School because they are people of integrity, who do right by kids. Also personally I have sacraficed a lot, a hell of a lot moore than any parent should have to for a good education and opportunities for their children. This is America, why should honest, hard working families be questioned about why they moved from one community to another? You guys sound like communist. If you knew how bad education has become in some parts of Oklahoma you would not question anyone moving from certain area's.
Also Chad, I make know apologies for defending people of charactor angainst liers like you, who say they know facts but in reality you spread falsehoods, because you have a personal axe to grain with someone, but your not man enough to say it.
Maybe you should read Rule 9, section 2 of the OSSAA rules since you are quoting rules and regulations of the OSSAA guidelines. I understand how tired you are because this conjecture will be constant and unforgiving by most people that care about what goes on in athletics. That's what this comment section is all about. It's about giving opinions on certain topics. I, for one, would be glad to sit down and have an adult conversation about what's right and what's wrong about this whole situation. Have a great day.
I'm am not even close to being a "hater" as you claim. I'm merely being the devil's advocate here. I'm trying to make you see the other side of the story. I personally could care less about championships it's more about what we are teaching and preparing our children for in the future. Are we teaching them that winning at all costs is okay as long as you win? Are we teaching them to take the easiest path in life as long as it's short term goals are attained? It's crazy how our priorities have morphed into "win at all costs". I also find it very interesting that you are the only one willing to step up and defend the criticism. I believe it's because maybe you, of all the transfers, have a legitimate reason to leave. I'm curious as to why it was Southmoore though. I just read Rule 8 in the OSSAA rule book and basically it stated what I said, you have to prove residence in the Southmoore district and provide proof of academic eligibility. I'm glad that these young men are having a great time and I hope for their success because I know it's not them ultimately that has caused all the fuss, it's the parent's living vicariously through them. I'm not jealous and I'm sure not ignorant (maybe you should re-read some of your posts) but I do have a firm grasp on what is right and what is wrong. Take that for what it's worth. I'm trying to have a intellectual conversation with anyone that has an opinion on this matter.
Let me make a bold prediction, Mustang will not get past PCN or beat Southmoore next year. As for as OSSAA future annoucements, I do not give a ...... I am tired of the whole process, I mean tired. I want the best for these young men because they have worked so hard and blessed each others lives, that is all I care about at this point, not OSSAA or jealous and ignorant adults.
Maybe you should not take the time to read my comments.
Let me say this, You guys need to read rule 8 int the OSSAA rule book, it is darn near impossible to get cleared through the OSSAA rule, you have to fall within certain catories and prove it to them, which is extremely difficult and the bearden is on the transferee not the OSSAA, they do not have to do the foot work, the subject does and they get so personal into your life someone would have to be stupid to turn their lives over like that for the possability of a high school chapionship, Dave, I thought you conversation was earnest starting out but I see you fall in the "HATER CLUB" Also I guess you do not know that OSSAA has a firm so big representing them many lawyers do not want to take a case to fight them, and besides that they are considered to be protected by state stature that saids when schools volunteerily come under their rules you can'y sue them, now people do but they lose and most lawyers know that.I done with this conversation because you and all of those who choose to to be anti truth about Southmoore are not going to change your minds, but let me say this, it does not matter what you guys think are how much you hope Southmoore fails, we are going to give 100% of all we have to get to the state Championship and if we get past Jenks we will win it!! All the kids will only remember in years to come is that we was Blessed to win a championship and the bitter jealous people who will complain and attempt to darken the moment for our kids will be forgotten.
I know that teams do have "special" seasons from time to time, but you have to admit that it does look a bit suspicious from last year to this year. The fact that the OSSAA had to investigate each of the transfers is proof that something is a little suspicious. Try to look at it from an outsiders perspective. I totally agree that you should not have to worry about your safety when you are in high school and as a parent you have a duty to protect your kid. I get that, but not all of the so called "transfers" that moved in to Southmoore had your situation. Agree? You must be able to try and see the situation from the eyes of an outsider. The people doing the investigation have their hands pretty much tied due to fact that most of the parents would have some legal action taken against the OSSAA so they look into it and move on. The investigation usually involves making sure the kid lives in the district. It's pretty difficult I imagine to prove why they moved where they moved. That's where all the speculation and conjecture is coming from. Yes, kids move around all over in this state because nothing has ever been done in the past and the Jenks situation has cast a light on this practice and people are scrambling around trying to cover the tracks that were ignored for years. I don't doubt for one second that the people in Moore have been anything but gracious and courteous and that's the way it should be. Honestly, do you think Southmoore would have the record they have now without the transfers? Be honest!! I think not!! I have no anomosity towards anyone or any family but I would like those that did move to Southmoore to take their heads out of the sand and own up to what they did, move to win a championship! I hope they do well but if you think that the skeptics are bad now, wait and see how many come out when and if the Sabercats win the gold ball.
Maybe your family should have transferred you to a school with a better grammar teacher.
I'm not anti-Southmoore, in fact, I'd much rather see Southmoore win state than Jenks or Union, but I will make a bold prediction...if Mustang and SM should meet again in the playoffs, Mustang will win.
Good luck to you.
You do not know who I am, nor do you know who I know.
I made the newspaper comment because you didn't seem to know anything about him from your post earlier.
You're so touchy about all this you haven't even noticed that I did NOT insult Southmoore, in fact I complemented them.
I also did not accuse anyone of anything other than the referees made some bad calls. I just put the quote about guilt out there for your reaction and you reacted just as I expected.
I am with Buck, I have no problem with any kid anywhere following the rules that are there for everyone.
No thanks for the lunch, I don't need someone else telling me what they think I know or don't know, especially people who have no clue who I am.
I think your posts have made it clear where you're coming from.
First of all, I said it was a great game and I think Southmoore has a very good team. It just so happens that I know several of their players and they are all great kids. As for the officiating, there were a few poorly timed "wrong" calls, plain and simple. My comment was that the refs should let the kids play the game and determine the outcome, not make poor calls that affect the outcome. I've spoken with several high school officials since the game and both the "interference" and "roughing the punter" calls were WRONG calls. Now I know that there are always "bad" calls in every game, and I have no problem with inaccurate judgment calls because I appreciate the difficulty of the official's job. I do, however, have a problem with incompetence, especially when it impacts the outcome of a game and those two calls certainly would fall into that category. I don't think it's too much to ask of the officials to actually know the rules that they are tasked with interpreting and enforcing.
Secondly, let me assure you that Mustang DOES NOT recruit players and Daniel was not "recruited" to come to Mustang. I know firsthand of multiple high profile players who have approached Mustang in recent years looking to be recruited, who were turned away. If Mustang was in the recruiting business, they would be much better than they are and they would have a few gold balls in their trophy case. 99% of their talent is home grown. The rest move into the district which is one of the fastest growing school districts in the state.
Thirdly, regarding Mr. Farrow, I'm very familiar with his situation and there are huge differences between what transpired with him, and what transpired with some of the Southmoore "transfers". First of all, Daniel NEEDED to make a move for several reasons. He worked directly with the OSSAA from day 1, communicating his intentions and doing exactly what they required him to do. Daniel has worked very hard to get his act together and is doing a great job. As previously stated, he wasn't recruited, he chose to move to the Mustang school district and he has worked very hard to make that move a reality by following the OSSAA rules and regulations.
Just for the record, I have no problem with ANY kid ANYWHERE following the rules and doing the same thing.
It's hard to argue with instant replay.
People who attack to defend the accusations are usually the guilty.
Talking about cowards? Why are you picking on Farrow when he is a fine young man who is working very hard to turn around his situation. Everything about his situation has been public knowledge, just read the papers. When he had a choice, he made a good decision to move where there is a good program to show his talents. Would you stay at PC West if you played like him? He didn't have parents with the financial ability to just move him to a good school. He's had to work very hard for himself to keep that promise to himself and his mother.
It seems to me that you just threw yourself in that catagory of "cowards" you were talking about.
BTW, did you miss my compliment to Southmoore in my previous post? I didn't just pull a full attack, and I stated what I see as the facts, and apparently there's some sports writers who see it the same way.
C... from Y U K O N
And Buck what are you talking about cheating? If you really want to be honest, Mustang never got into the end zone on that first touch down the refs gave them. C, Youkon- Both teams made major mistakes that kept the other team in the game, it would be too easy to look back and say what could have been, but of course only losers do that!!
Good Luck in the playoffs. We love you!
Great Job Mustang, now replay 2006, 3rd place in District, but in the Championship game for the Class. Go Broncos!
