Edmond’s sales tax collections for the first four months of this fiscal year are 17.4 percent above what was received for the same period two years ago.
City officials calculated this year’s budget using collections two years ago. They think last year’s figures were elevated because of roof repairs and one-time purchases.
This year’s collections are more than three times higher than the 6 percent growth projected in the 2013-14 budget, City Manager Larry Stevens said.
“The very good news continues for this critical revenue source,” Stevens said.
Edmond has collected $11.4 million from a half-cent sales tax to build the new public safety center complex. Over $10,000 in interest also has been received. Collection of the half-cent tax started in April 2012 and will last for five years.
