Cleveland County sales tax to build jail goes to vote
NORMAN — Cleveland County voters will decide Tuesday whether to fund a new jail by passing the county’s first sales tax.
The proposal would finance an estimated budget of more than $45 million to build and equip a jail that can house 542 inmates.
The quarter-cent sales tax could last up to 20 years, although county officials say the debt likely would be repaid several years earlier.
