SALLISAW — A Sallisaw woman is in Sequoyah County Jail after police say she tried to sell her two children.

Misty VanHorn, 22, was arrested Wednesday on a complaint of trafficking children. Sallisaw police say she tried to sell her two children — one two years old and the other 10 months — to a woman in Fort Smith, Ark.

VanHorn was being held in Sequoyah County Jail Saturday. Her bail was set at $40,000. The two children were placed in DHS custody, police said.

Sallisaw police Lt. Jeff Murray said Oklahoma Department of Human Services officials contacted police about the case.

VanHorn told investigators she hoped to sell the older child for $1,000 or both for $4,000, and that she needed $1,000 to bail her boyfriend out of jail, Murray said.
