EDMOND - Some people might compare a Himalayan salt rock massage or a peppermint-lotion foot rub to a religious experience, and for Kathleen Mason Morton, she hopes that's true.

"God," Morton answers seriously when asked why she opened a medical salon spa in Edmond.
Morton takes care of critically ill patients as a physician's assistant at the Edmond Medical Center.
"I know I am doing what I was called to do, but my patients sometimes expire and it's depressing. So I was praying and asking God what to do, and this came about," she said.
Morton, 53, opened the Jon'Ric International Medical Spa and Salon four months ago in the Edmond Exchange Building at 33rd and Broadway.
She said her business is all about helping people feel their best.
"I would lay in bed at night and think of how something should look or feel and how I could make people the most comfortable, the most relaxed and in the best physical shape."
So she and business partner Dr. Tim Grode purchased a franchise from a Deland, Fla.-based company. Her son Lance Morton is executive director of the Edmond business.
The team spent more than a year designing every inch of the salon and spa to be the most comfortable, relaxing and luxurious atmosphere they could dream up -- from the cushy robes and slippers loaned to spa clients to the granite counter tops and soft lighting in the manicure room to the massage chairs and lighted footbaths in the pedicure room.
Clients relax with beer, wine, bottled water or tea.
Separate rooms hold tables for aestheticians who provide exfoliating and cleansing facials or for massage therapists who apply Himalayan salt therapy techniques.
Jon'Ric also has machines that help clients determine their metabolism and the ideal heart rate they'll need for safe weight loss. Body wraps and spray tanning also are available.
On the salon side, individual hair styling stations ensure privacy and one-on-one attention, or clients can schedule a session with Suzie -- a hair-washing, scalp-massaging, sinus-releasing machine that is used in conjunction with arm and neck massage. Morton also provides cosmetology services.
Jon'Ric also offers medical services such as Botox, VelaSmooth cellulite reduction, Restylane lip injections or laser services such as hair removal, skin resurfacing, leg vein treatment and acne treatment.
Cost for services range from $20 for a man's haircut to $135 for a partial highlight and color with cut for women, and from $35 for a half-hour Swedish massage to $115 for a deep-tissue sports massage.
Services at Jon'Ric are available by appointment by calling 285-4560 or visiting online at www.jonricok.com.
