To honor Oklahoma's post-9/11 veterans, Chickasaw Nation and OKC Nationals sponsors will pay a “Salute to the Troops” with free admission to the Saturday events at the 2012 Ozarka-Riverwind OKC Nationals drag boat races. The Nationals will take place June 8-10 on the Oklahoma River.
“The ‘Salute to the Troops' is something we wanted to do to welcome home our Oklahoma soldiers,” said Mike McAuliffe, president and CEO of OKC Motorsports, in a news release. OKC Motorsports produces the event.
“It is an honor to welcome home our local heroes as well as recognize those Oklahomans who gave their lives for their country.”
The Ozarka-Riverwind OKC Nationals also hosts OKC Navy Week each year, by recognizing the presence of the U.S. Navy in Oklahoma, including the 1,400 sailors stationed at the Navy Wing at Tinker AFB. Sailors are invited each year to attend the races as the guests of the organizers and sponsors.
The Oklahoma City race is one of the largest drag boat races in the nation, attracting more than 100 race teams.
Race fans will see 10 different boat classes competing, including everything from personal watercrafts that reach speeds up to 80 mph, to race boats that travel 200 mph.
The 2012 Ozarka-Riverwind OKC Nationals offers access to the pit area, children's activities, a music festival and a variety of food concessions.
Each soldier attending will receive two complimentary passes, and children age 12 and under are admitted free.
Free parking also is available for soldiers and their families. The races take place in the Boathouse District adjacent to the Bricktown Entertainment District. To reserve passes, go to www.kfor.com/okcnationals.
For the general public, race tickets and weekend passes are available at the Chesapeake Energy Arena Box Office, at www.ticketmaster.com and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
