The Salvation Army will kick off its annual summer fan distribution at 9 a.m. Wednesday at 501 S Harvey.

With donations from Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. and Ace Hardware, the Salvation Army has 300 fans to give away.

“We will start giving the fans away at 9 a.m. and go on until we run out,” said Heide Brandes, the Salvation Army's communications and marketing director.

To be eligible, applicants must be 62 or older, have infants under 6 months of age in the home, be disabled with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, asthma or emphysema or take psychotropic drugs and other medications.

Clients who received fans last year are not eligible for fans this year.

“Fans are usually good for a few seasons and we are given such a limited supply that we want to make sure that those who didn't get one last year or those who have never received one at all get one this year,” Brandes said.

Applicants must present photo identifications such as a driver's license, state issued ID or passport for all adult household members.
