Salvation Army testing kettles that take debit and credit cards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — There could be less jingle in the Salvation’s Army’s hallmark red kettles this season. The charity is testing kettles that take debit and credit cards.

Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign manager Allison Struck shows a volunteer bell ringer how to use the charity's new plastic card readers at a station outside a Colorado Springs, Col., grocery store on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. Colorado Springs is one of 30 cities where Salvation Army kettle collections will include an option for people who don't carry cash but want to donate using a credit or debit card.
