The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History wants to celebrate being a 2014 National Medal for Museum and Library Service winner and is asking the community to join the party.

A free “Historic Block Party and National Medal Celebration” will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday on the museum grounds at Timberdell Road and Chautauqua Avenue.

The block party celebration is a family- and pet-friendly event featuring live music from Oklahoma artists Travis Linville, the Tequila Songbirds, Mike Hosty and Sherree Chamberlain. Food trucks will be on site, and the museum will offer celebratory cake and refreshments in the Redbud Cafe.

The museum was awarded the National Medal in a ceremony at the White House on May 8. Medalists were selected based on significant and exceptional contributions to their communities. The award is the nation’s highest honor to be presented to museums and libraries.

“The Sam Noble museum is proud to be selected for this national honor. We share the award with the people of Oklahoma who made this museum and its programs possible and who continue to support us in every way,” museum Director Michael Mares said.
