Edmond firefighters are planning a Winter Night event at the Children's Safety Village, an evening for children to enjoy the fire department's small-size town used to educate children on safety issues.

The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 14 at 5300 E Covell Road.

Sparky, the fire safety wonder dog, will greet children and their families. There will be hot chocolate, and a workshop sponsored by Lowes will allow children to work in Santa's workshop creating toys. Storytellers will be there with their favorite tales.

Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos of the children with Santa on the 1929 fire truck.

There will be a free smoke alarm sign-up table for visitors who don't have a smoke alarm in their homes.

Nonperishable food items will be collected and donated for the Hope Center.

The event is free. Nearly 1,000 Christmas lights will decorate the small buildings in the Children's Safety Village.
