Santos stadium closed after problem with ambulance

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil's sports tribunal has prohibited Santos from hosting matches at its Vila Belmiro Stadium because an ambulance didn't have access to the field when a player was seriously injured in a Brazilian league match.

Atletico Mineiro defender Rafael Marques collapsed after being hit in the head in a match against Santos on Wednesday, staying on the field for nearly 10 minutes because the ambulance couldn't get into the pitch because of a blocked entrance. He was eventually transported from the field on a stretcher.

The tribunal says the stadium will be reopened only after Santos shows it has made changes to allow the entrance of ambulances.

Marques spent the night in a hospital but was released the next day after tests showed no serious injuries.
