Savage gives Cowboys a ‘spark'
OSU back has a career-best 212 yards rushing against Cornhuskers

LINCOLN, Neb. — When Oklahoma State running back Dantrell Savage gets tackled, it often seems like he's popped back to his feet and tossed the ball to the referee before he even hits the ground.

It's that kind of energy, quarterback Zac Robinson said, that makes Savage "our spark.”

"I tell everyone that he just gets it going,” Robinson said. "He bounces. He's definitely the first one that jumps up. He's got a lot of energy.”

Savage already had a new career high in rushing in the first half of Saturday's win over Nebraska, rushing for 148 yards in the first half and 212 total. Savage's previous career high was 134 yards against Texas A&M in 2006.

"I'll tell my grandkids and whoever wants to know about it,” Savage said of his record-breaking performance at Nebraska. "Basically I was just running and whatever happens happens.”

Out-of-town media unfamiliar with Savage's style asked the shifty back about all the tackles he was breaking against Nebraska's defense.

"I was breaking tackles, but basically that's what I do,” Savage said matter-of-factly.

Savage was equally matter-of-fact when asked about his trademark bounce-up.
