Saying goodbye, mourners celebrate slain Anadarko pastor’s life

Only a few friends had gone to hear the weekly sermon of the Rev. Carol Daniels on the day she died, but the story of the slain pastor from Oklahoma City now is being carried around the globe, a church leader said at her funeral Monday.

"I thought about her ministry,” Bishop R.L Swain Sr. said during the service. "It soared like an eagle at her death, all over the world. God always has a way to make something good come out of something bad.”

Nearly 1,000 people began filing into the Greater New Zion Baptist Church in Oklahoma City more than an hour before the service for the 61-year-old pastor. They were greeted by the sounds of Southern gospel coming from speakers atop a projection screen that read "Celebrating the Home Going of Pastor Carol Daniels.”

Family and fellow clergy said it was a fitting tribute to a woman who died doing what she was called to do, what she loved. She was killed Sunday morning at the Worthy Temple Christ Holy Sanctified Church in Anadarko.

"Carol valued her ministry at Worthy Temple,” Overseer Ezra Randle said of the woman who never complained about the hour commute to her church, even when gasoline topped $4 a gallon.

"It was not a sacrifice. She enjoyed it.
