SAYRE — The North Fork Correctional Facility in Sayre will create 217 new jobs after its owner contracted with the state of California to bring in 1,400 more inmates.
Prison owner
Corrections Corp. of
America recently amended its agreement with the
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to allow for the housing of 2,336 additional offenders from California.
The additional jobs will increase the facility’s staff to 529 once hiring is completed, said
Vicki Hinkle, North Fork’s human resources manager.
Hiring will begin immediately for professional-level positions including academic and vocational instructors, addictions treatment counselors, administrative clerks, case managers, correctional officers, maintenance workers and unit managers, a statement from the company said.
No immediate information on wages for the jobs was provided.
Hinkle said the
Nashville-based company offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including company-paid training, paid time off, medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance and a 401(k) retirement savings plan.
Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
"Effectively and safely running a prison is like operating a small town,” North Fork warden
Fred Figueroa said in a statement. "It requires a range of specialties, and I believe many hardworking Oklahomans will welcome these recession-resistant opportunities, especially during these challenging economic times. The impact to western Oklahoma’s job market and economy will be tremendous.”
