SB 452 already contrary to federal law

Published: March 2, 2013

The Legislature is again moving toward passage of a bill that won't survive a court challenge because it's contrary to federal law. Like many of these failed laws, it attempts to limit the choices of women. Edmond Republican Clark Jolley's Senate Bill 452 states, in part, “… no employer shall be required to provide or pay for any benefit or service related to abortion or contraception through the provision of health insurance to his or her employees.”

It's not up to our Legislature to deny women access to the full range of available and legal medical services. Federal law is clear on this matter. There are so many real issues to be addressed by our Legislature; it's ludicrous to waste precious resources on this issue. If you think Jolley and the Legislature should restrict their access to legal medical services, say nothing. If you don't think that this should be their role, contact Jolley.
