Scam targets elderly

ALTUS -- Authorities are investigating what has been labeled a phone scam preying on elderly residents in Altus, the Altus Times reports.

The newspaper reported that state banking officials have issued an alert that the victims have been receiving calls telling them their Medicaid checks will be withheld if they don't provide their bank account numbers.

Officials warn residents not to provide these numbers by phone and report any such incident to authorities.
