The cold, blustery weather that rolled in couldn’t dim the sunny outlook Choctaw-Nicoma Park Superintendent Jim McCharen saw for his district Tuesday night.

Voters had just approved a $96.7 million bond proposition, the largest bond package ever passed in the district’s history.

The two propositions, which call for $94.9 million for new construction and $1.8 million for new buses, achieved 84 percent approval from voters.

"We’re just thrilled to death ... and appreciative of our patrons for passing this in such an overwhelming fashion,” McCharen said. Plans call for the construction of a new Choctaw Middle School and Nicoma Park Elementary and other district-wide improvements. Work should begin on all of the planned construction projects by late summer or early fall, he said.

Edmond Superintendent David Goin said he learned the bond propositions for his district passed while watching an orchestra concert at Edmond North High School.
