ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — With politicians upset over U.S. Olympic uniforms made in China, Sen. Charles Schumer is offering the services of a New York state clothes maker.
Schumer aides said Friday that Rochester-based Hickey Freeman is capable and interested in making new uniforms before the international games start July 27 in London. The Democratic senator is forwarding the offer to the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Schumer is among scores of elected officials critical of the committee's decision to dress the U.S. team in Chinese manufactured berets, blazers and pants while the American textile industry struggles.
On Thursday, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, suggested the Hugo Boss plant in Cleveland as a good place to make replacement uniforms.
