Metro Tech Board Member E. Elaine Schuster has received the 2012 Sweet Briar College Distinguished Alumna Award.
The award was established in 1988 to honor “alumnae who have brought distinction to themselves and to Sweet Briar College through outstanding accomplishments in a volunteer or professional capacity.”
“I could not believe that I was chosen for this award,” Schuster said. “They can choose anybody that has ever attended the college since 1906. I was flabbergasted that they chose me.”
Schuster graduated from the Virginia college in 1958 and holds master's and law degrees from the University of Oklahoma.
The president of the Alumnae Association, Mollie Johnson Nelson, wrote to Schuster, “All members of our committee concur that your extensive career as an attorney makes you a most deserving recipient of Sweet Briar's Distinguished Alumna Award.
“Your accomplishments as first female at Whitten & Whitten Law Firm, as assistant district attorney of Oklahoma County, and your long career in private practice are most impressive.
“Countless committees, boards and nonprofits in Oklahoma City have benefited from your expertise and commitment to bettering your community,” Nelson said, “including Sweet Briar, the English Speaking Union, American Association of University Women and The Oklahoma Historical Society.”
