The free fest will have lots of things for kids to enjoy, such as leather craft activities, pony rides and a dummy roping area. For you older buckaroos, there is live Western music with both line and Native American dance, medicine shows, trick roping and barbecue.

Horse enthusiasts also can buy, sell or trade new or used livestock or equestrian items at the tack shop.

So, if you plan on coming downtown, be sure to wear your best Western clothing, hats and boots and enjoy a great family event. The Wild West Fest is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After the vote

In the aftermath of the public safety center election, Gina Stanley of Edmond said the economy is not to blame. "I think it’s the property tax factor. Property owners already pay some big amounts for schools, even if they don’t utilize those services,” she said. "I think residents want the funding for a safety center to be shouldered by all citizens.”

Casie Schmidt said an increase in a temporary sales tax is the best solution. "There is no reason for homeowners to be the only ones to foot the bill. I do not like the idea of paying to lock someone up in jail who rents in Edmond or another city, for that matter,” she said.
