Search begun for backpacker missing in Sierra

BISHOP, Calif. (AP) — Search crews have begun looking for a Southern California man who left on a three-day backpacking trip Friday in the eastern Sierra and never returned.

Officials say 53-year-old Larry Conn started hiking at a trailhead in the Inyo National Forest with plans to travel over Taboose Pass toward the John Muir Trail in Kings Canyon National Park.
A spokeswoman for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks says Conn had planned to finish his trip Monday.
Conn, who is from Pacific Palisades, is described as an experienced backpacker and is familiar with the area.
