Searchable database memorializes terrorism victims

The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism has launched a searchable database of terrorism victims dating back to 1970.

The victims also are memorialized by a 60-by-20-foot flag hanging from the ceiling of the institute's training room in downtown Oklahoma City.

The squares on the flag are identified by 20 symbols representing terrorist events alongside the names of the victims.

The squares are searchable online at www.mipt.org.

“Everyone who sees it has been so moved by it we knew we had to allow public access and the best way to do that is through the Internet,” said Deputy Director Tamara Pratt.

Some terrorist events searchable on the flag and in the database include the 9/11 attacks, the Oklahoma City bombing as well as the Beirut barracks bombing in 1983.
