Second fatal officer-involved shooting since Saturday reported in south Oklahoma City
An Oklahoma City police officer shot and killed a man caught trying to break into a car after the man aimed a weapon at the officer, authorities said.
About 1:40 a.m. Monday, a resident saw a man breaking into a car in the 3200 block of SW 47. The man, who had a gun, fled and hid in a yard in the 3300 block of SW 47 off S Independence Avenue, Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.
When the officer called to the scene found the man hiding in the yard, the man aimed a gun at the officer and the officer opened fire, killing the man, according to police.
The man was identified as Tyler Rogers, 20. He was shot by 16-year police veteran Sgt. Jeff Lunow, police said.
It was the second officer-involved shooting since Saturday. A man who aimed a gun at a police helicopter and two officers in southeast Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon was shot and killed by officers.
