"Seeing Red," an art show celebrating the color red, will open Feb. 1 at In Your Eye Gallery, 3005 Paseo. Opening reception is 6 to 10 p.m. at the gallery. The show will run through Feb. 24.
Red is associated with intense human emotions. From anger, rage and fear, to passion, desire and love, red defines some of our more instinctual human drives and feelings. Whether bathing a painting in crimson or splashing a small area with scarlet as visual punctuation, the artists at In Your Eye Gallery use red as a catalyst, creating an exhibit that celebrates the sheer intensity of the color. The red-infused artwork was created in various media including paint, fiber art, photography, mixed media, glass and jewelry. When grouped together, the pieces form a visually intense and intriguing exhibit, gallery spokeswoman Gayle Curry said.
The twelve artists represented in the gallery are: Andrea Kissinger, Carl Shortt, Jr., Chad Woolbright, Dana Powell, Diana J Smith, Gayle L. Curry, Janice Mathews-Gordon, Michelle Phillip Junkin, Natalie Friedman, Nicki Albright, Sue Hale, and Yun Hendricks.
