Sen. Tom Coburn spars with anti-tax group over ethanol subsidy proposal
WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Coburn and an influential Washington group that fights against tax increases sparred again Tuesday, this time over Coburn's proposal to eliminate a tax subsidy for ethanol.
Coburn, R-Muskogee, sent a letter to Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist accusing the group of supporting wasteful spending in its zeal to hold senators to their pledge not to raise taxes.
