Senate Armed Services chairman tells Pentagon leaders he opposes base closure request

WASHINGTON — A leading Senate Democrat said Tuesday he is against more domestic military base closures. The declaration was made at a hearing in which top Pentagon officials defended nearly $500 billion in proposed spending reductions.
