BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia has declared a day of mourning for late Polish President Lech Kaczynski and dozens of dignitaries killed in a plane crash over the weekend.

The government says in a statement released Tuesday that the day of mourning will be observed on Thursday throughout the Balkan republic.

Kaczynski, his wife and dozens of Polish political, military and religious leaders died Saturday when their plane went down while trying to land in dense fog at Smolensk in western Russia.

Altogether 96 people died in the crash.
