Six candidates have filed to run against incumbent Ronald “Skip” Kelly for the Ward 7 seat on the Oklahoma City Council in the March 5 primary election.

Filing for Wards 1, 3, 4 and 7 closed at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Two candidates are challenging incumbent Gary Marrs for the Ward 1 seat representing northwest Oklahoma City.

Ward 3 Council Member Larry McAtee and Ward 4 Council Member Pete White are unopposed for re-election.

Running against Kelly for the northeast-side seat are John E. Bilbury III, 57; Lillie R. Buckner, 74; John A. Pettis Jr., 30; Star Young, 29; Ben T. Robinson, 65; and Randon Gibson, 25.

Kelly, 63, is an Oklahoma City attorney. He was appointed to the council in 2008 and ran unopposed in 2009.

Kelly faces a felony charge of driving while intoxicated after being arrested in January 2012 on suspicion of drunken driving for the second time in less than three years. A preliminary hearing is scheduled March 15.

If he is elected and subsequently convicted on the charge, Kelly would have to give up his council seat.
