Shattuck has had plenty of blowouts during its 90-game winning streak, but there have been a few close games along the way.
But it’s a game Shattuck eventually won 52-6 that Indians coach
Troy Bullard remembers as one of the closest.
In the 2007 semifinals, Shattuck trailed 6-0 to
Medford before taking off with 56 consecutive points.
"Luck’s definitely been on our side throughout this thing,” Bullard said.
Shattuck will face Goodwell at home on Friday with a chance to win its 91st consecutive game. With a win, Shattuck would break the record the Indians now share with Morrison for the longest eight-man winning streak in national history.
Bullard also pointed to a state championship win over Fox, where Shattuck lost its starting quarterback in the first quarter and had to bring in a freshman to play, and a 2005 28-6 semifinal win over Covington-Douglas as the closest calls.
The closest game by scoring margin in the streak was the Indians’ 28-16 win over Laverne to open the 2006 season.
This season, Shattuck has won by 16 points or less on three occasions, though the Indians led Sharon-Mutual 40-0 last week before the game closed to 46-32 by the end.
During the streak, 30 of Shattuck’s wins have come by shutout. Most of those games ended at halftime due to the eight-man mercy rule.
