Shattuck reaches Class C title game

From Staff Reports Published: November 26, 2011

Down 20 points to Temple midway through the fourth quarter on Saturday, Shattuck coach Tony Bullard didn't have to say much to his team.

Instead, the Indians responded with 24 straight points over the final seven minutes for a 56-44 victory to advance to the Class C state championship game next week against the winner of Tipton and Sharon-Mutual.

“The kids just didn't give up and kept fighting,” Bullard said. “We got a couple of breaks and the kids kept playing hard.”

Shattuck took the lead for good when Trevor Carpenter recovered a fumble in the end zone with 4:29 remaining.

Aaron McCandless scored two of Shattuck's final three TDs on 1-yard runs. He finished with six rushing TDs and 232 yards on 37 carries. He also threw one TD pass.

Temple's Nic Brown finished with four TDs and 284 yards. Aaron Holden finished with two TDs and 179 yards.

The Tigers led 44-24 in the fourth quarter.
