SHAWNEE — In a matter of days, students, employees and patrons of the Shawnee School District will have a new performing arts and athletic center to boast about, officials said.
Work crews are finishing work on the $10 million, 60,000-square-foot facility attached to Shawnee High School, 1001 N Kennedy Ave. District officials said they expect to receive permission to occupy the building within the next two weeks. The addition houses an auditorium and a gymnasium. The 750-seat auditorium features a state-of-the-art audio system, a stage complete with five curtains and a number of other features. The gymnasium will seat about 1,500 spectators, officials said. About 80 percent of the seating in the gym is chair-back seating. Bleachers make up the rest. Both facilities have glass walls that open up to a large common area that connects the two facilities. Once complete, officials said they plan to use the facility to host a variety of school and community events.Toolbar sponsored by: David Stanley Ford
