SHAWNEE — The six-screen cinema at Shawnee Mall is set to undergo a face-lift.
Upgrades include new seats, digital projection technology, an updated lobby, rest rooms and concessions area and least one 3-D screen.
"We’re upgrading the theater experience. We think more (people) will come now with a nice, modern facility,” said
Scott Kingrey, the mall’s manager.
The theater will close for about six weeks starting in January and is expected to reopen in early spring, around the time construction is completed on a new
Buffalo Wild Wings at the mall.
Shawnee-based Jones Theaters, in a joint venture with national cinema operator
Carmike Cinemas, will operate the theater. The companies currently operate two Shawnee theaters:
Cinema Centre 8 and Hornbeck and Penthouse Theatres.
